On Dec 2nd, 2018, a public workshop on the development of the Holsten area was held.
This workshop provided an opportunity for citizens to learn about and comment on the different sections of the master plan for the Holsten Site. At the beginning of 2017, after the Carlsberg Group decided to relocate its Holsten Brewery production site to the south side of the Elbe, an urban-open space planning competition was announced to determine the future development structure on the site. The winner was chosen in the summer of 2017 and it is this plan that was discussed on the 2nd.
At various theme tables, citizens met with representatives of various institutions, initiatives and institutions from the district as well as with employees of the Altona district office and Hamburg authorities. The Cities-4-People team was part of the Transport and Mobility table. Other topics included the planning of the public park, housing and living arrangements, work and industry, inclusion, culture, social infrastructure, school and sports. At the event, citizens could ask questions about aspects of the plan, provide comments, and discuss general issues and challenges that they hope for the plan to incorporate. These interactions provided inspiration for the Cities-4-People project, especially helping to identify the transportation problems of high concern in the community.
